Cement concreting works are being carried out at a rapid pace across the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) area with the aim of making the roads pothole-free. The BMC administration is taking a strong stand to ensure that these works are of good quality.

Also, strict action is being taken against individuals and organisations that perform substandard work or are negligent in their work. Accordingly, the contractor who caused inexcusable delay in the concreting work of the roads in Aarey Colony has been prohibited from participating in the tender process of all departments of the BMC for the next two years.

A fine of INR 5 lakh has also been imposed. This blunder by the BMC will hit the contractors hard. In addition, the registration of two ready-mix concrete projects has been cancelled due to errors found in the slump test. They have been banned from supplying concrete mix for any work of the civic body for the next 6 months. Also, 2 road contractors have been fined INR 20 lakh each. Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Bhushan Gagrani has given instructions in this regard.

The implementation of the cement concrete road project in the municipal area is going on effectively. Micro planning has been done to complete the cement concreting of the roads before 31 May 2025. A specific date has been set for the completion of the work of each road.

Similarly, engineers should remain present during ongoing roadworks, senior officials should make surprise visits to the work sites, and while speeding up the progress of the work, emphasis must also be placed on quality. Strict action should be taken against individuals or agencies delivering substandard work, as clearly directed by Gagarani.

Cement concrete and mastic asphalt improvement work on Dinkarrao Desai Road in Aarey Colony is underway through a contractor.

Additional Municipal Commissioner Abhijit Bangar inspected the road work. As the work was found to be of poor quality, a notice was issued to the contractor. Also, instructions were given to immediately rectify the poor work by imposing a fine.

However, the contractor also caused inexcusable delay in the repair work. An explanation was sought from the contractor in this regard, but due to the lack of satisfactory explanation, the contractor has been prohibited from participating in the tender process of all departments of the Municipal Corporation for the next 2 years. A fine of INR 5 lakh has also been imposed.
