Amid the water cut announced for three days by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the water prices are also going to increase in the coming days. According to reports, the BMC civic committee approved the proposal to increase the price of water in Mumbai. As this happened, the water prices will increase by 2.48 per cent from June 16.  

The city’s residential household pays ₹5.09 for the utilisation of every 1000 litres. However, the civic body has increased the amount to ₹5.22. On the other hand, the BMC has increased the water price for slum households from ₹4.23 to ₹4.33.

BMC officials informed that the water prices have been increased to repair the pipelines. With the implementation of the water price hike, the civic body is expected to make an additional revenue of ₹27.04 crore.
