A name board in Gujarati language has been installed in front of the park in the Swatantra Veer Savarkar Park of the Mumbai Corporation in Borivali. As soon as the citizens raised criticism, the municipal administration ordered the removal of the Gujarati nameplates in the next two days. In this regard, a notice has been issued to the organisation responsible for park maintenance.

The Poisar Gymkhana has been maintaining the Swatantraveer Savarkar Udyan in Borivali for the past few years. Maintenance, repair and other works in the park are done through this organisation. The organisation has put up a name board in the centre of the park in Marathi and on the other two sides in English and Gujarati. Regional language is compulsory along with Hindi and English as per the Centre's trilingual formula. Therefore, it is necessary to include Marathi, English and Hindi languages in the park, citizens say.

Citizens alleged that Gujarati was deliberately used in the park. In the past, there have been many incidents in Borivali where Gujarati language has been given priority over Marathi language. Gujarati has been overused in Borivali, Kandivali and Malad areas for many years. Prasad Gokhale, a local resident, alleged that Gujarati is deliberately given priority in many road names, notices at railway stations, food and drink items.
