In the midst of the rising COVID-19 cases in Mumbai, in the backdrop of the Omicron variant, on Tuesday, January 4, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) proclaimed updated guidelines for international passengers arriving at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), reports stated.

Kiran Dighavkar, an assistant municipal commissioner took to Twitter to release the latest protocol for those coming to Mumbai International Airport from abroad.

Dighavkar was quoted by news agency ANI, stating, "All int'l pax coming from at-risk, high-risk countries & UAE has to go through rapid RTPCR or any other tests. The rest of the passengers who are fully vaccinated need not go for the test unless asked to do so by authorities".

If the sample is positive, it will be sent for genome sequencing and the passenger will be taken for institutional quarantine. If the sample is negative, passengers will have to mandatory home quarantine for a week.

All positive passengers who are symptomatic in the Airport will be admitted to Seven Hills Hospital. If they wish to go to a private hospital they will be transferred to Bombay Hospital or Breach Candy Hospital.

On the other hand, all positive passengers who are asymptomatic in the Airport will be admitted to the BKC or Kanjurmarg Jumbo facility. If they wish to go to a private facility they will be transferred to linked hotels.

Asymptomatic patients already admitted to Bombay Hospital and Breach Candy Hospital will be shifted to the hotels listed. Moreover, the payment of the hotel will be the positive passenger's responsibility.
