In an order released on Tuesday, January 4, the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) modified the protocol for sealing buildings, reports stated. The said decision was undertaken owing to the surge in COVID-19 cases reported as well as the threat of the highly transmissible variant, Omicron

Based on the order the complete building or the building complex's or society's wing will be sealed if over 20 per cent of the occupied number of flats in the building or the building complex's or society's wing is affected with coronavirus. Apart from this, it will also be sealed if at least 10 positive patients are detected in the affected flats in aggregate.

The civic body expects the patients as well as their contacts to adhere to the home quarantine guidelines.

The patient will have to be isolated for at least 10 days from the day the symptoms start or the test was undertaken and needs to have no fever for three days continuously.

On the other hand, high-risk contacts need to be home quarantined for a week. They will be tested on the fifth and seventh days or promptly if they are symptomatic. Further protocols will be undertaken in accordance with their results.

The building managing committee has to undertake due care while ensuring that the family in quarantine is provided with essentials.

Cooperation is expected for Medical Officers of the Health and Ward War Room staff. Moreover, the decision to de-seal the building or wing will be taken at the ward level.

The Ward War Room can also be contacted in cases of symptoms, doubts, information or help in shifting patients to COVID-19 facilities or hospitals.
