COVID-19: Mumbai Reports Over 10,000 New Cases

Based on the data released by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) 834 patients were hospitalized today of which 52 are on oxygen.

On Tuesday, January 4, Mumbai reported 10,860 COVID-19 positive cases. Of these 9,665 which is 89 per cent were asymptomatic. Based on the data released by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) 834 patients were hospitalized today of which 52 are on oxygen. Previously, on Monday, 8082 new cases were registered in Mumbai.

Additionally, from the 30,565 beds available, as of Tuesday, 4,491 are occupied which is 14.7 per cent. On the other hand, 654 positive patients recovered and were discharged from the medical institutions. The total number of active cases in the Greater Mumbai Area stands at 47, 476.

According to the information, two fatalities were reported owing to coronavirus on Tuesday. Both of whom were males had comorbidities and were over the age of 60. On Monday too, two deaths were reported due to the virus. 

The total tests done also stands at 49,661. With these latest updates in numbers, the recovery rate of the city is at 92 per cent. Moreover, the overall growth rate of COVID-19 cases in Mumbai from December 28 to January 3 is at 0.63 per cent. Therefore, the doubling rate stands at 110 days. 

Based on the containment measures taken on Monday, there are 16 active containment zones in Mumbai, a rise from Monday when there were 11. Likewise, the active sealed numbers also increased to 389 which yesterday was 318.
