Mumbai Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar owes a penalty to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for violating parking rules set up by the civic body in Mumbai. This happened after the Mayor’s car was parked at a ‘No Parking Zone’ and its photograph went viral on social media.

Mayor Mahadeshwar’s car was parked outside Malvani Aswad hotel in Vile Parle right under a 'no-parking' sign. It becomes a moral responsibility of the authorities to follow the rules implemented by them in order to set an example for the common public. However, in this case, the Mayor has violated the same and is liable to pay the fine.

The Mumbai traffic police informed that an e-challan was issued against the Mayor’s official vehicle. However, the amount of penalty is not known. Moreover, it is not confirmed whether the Mayor has cleared the penalty imposed or not.

Earlier, the BMC had implemented strict parking rules across Mumbai while imposing a penalty up to ₹25,000 from ₹5,000 - depending on the vehicle - for illegal parking. The BMC has collected lakhs of rupees in fine since last week.
