In the aftermath of the newly-formed government in Maharashtra, the Eknath Shinde-led regime, in its first administrative, has made a reshuffle in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

However, it has come to light that of those transferred a top civic official who appeared to have the backing of Uddhav Thackeray and his son Aaditya was also shifted.

In an order signed by BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal on Monday, Kiran Dighavkar and two more assistant commissioners have been transferred.

Assistant municipal commissioner Kiran Dighavkar has been transferred from G-North to E ward, which is the home ground of rebel MLA Yamini Jadhav and her husband former BMC standing committee chairman Yashwant Jadhav.

Dighavkar was in charge of G-North ward, which covers the Sena-stronghold Dadar-Mahim-Shivaji Park belt, for over three years.

Thanking civic officials for helping him during his stint in G-North ward, Dighavkar said: “Vaccination in slums through CSR with community engagements, restoration of Mahim beach, the Dadar viewing deck, rainwater harvesting and mitigation of dust problem in Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Park, building India’s largest community toilet and permanent rehabilitation of Mahim Fort encroachers were possible with the support of my staff who worked relentlessly with me.”

Meanwhile, assistant municipal commissioner Manish Walunju of E ward (Mazgaon, Nagpada, Byculla) has been moved to K-East ward (Vile Parle, Andheri and Jogeshwari east), while Prashant Sakpale, in-charge of K-East ward, will replace Dighavkar in G-North ward.

Dighavkar had successfully handled the COVID-19 crisis in Dharavi and had published a book titled ‘The Dharavi Model’ which included a foreword by former CM Uddhav Thackeray.
