
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Tuesday, December 16, removed 2,103 political banners, flexes and flags from various locations across Mumbai. The decision was taken following a meeting chaired by Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani.
This development came a day after the State Election Commission (SEC) implemented the model code of conducted in the wake of civic body elections, which are slated to be held on January 15.
The officials said that under this ongoing drive, in the next one week all the political posters and hoardings will be removed from Mumbai.
Around 12,300 banners are installed in the suburbs and island city at present, civic officials stated.
Officials further stated that all the ward offices have been instructed to take down all posters and banners.
Each ward office will also set up a monitoring team that will keep a close watch so that repeat offenders don’t erect banners even after us removing them.
The BMC administration also maintained that disciplinary action would be taken against officials for failure to remove the posters and hoardings within the time frame.
Mumbai will witness civic elections on January 15, 2026, after a hiatus of four years. The counting will be held on January 16.
