BMC Seeks Citizen's Suggestions, Objections On "Water For All" Policy

According to the latest reports, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is looking to bring out the "Water for All" policy wherein water connection will be provided to every Mumbaikar, starting May 1. In light of this, the BMC has asked the citizens to send their recommendations and objections. 

Based on accounts, the civic body has uploaded the "Water for All" policy on its website for citizens. For this, residents can send their recommendations and objections to the mail id: sewwconstes05.he@mcgm.gov.in till April 22, adding that civic authority, cited narratives. 

The policy aims to ensure that water supply is provided to all including those residing in unmapped illegal slum settlements. This was also announced in the BMC budget 2022-23. The policy looks to ameliorate water supply in an area wherein presently there is no water supply for the civic authority. 

These include slums settled on private land, commercial land and illegal establishments. It has been reported, that the BMC in its policy note elaborated on how water is a fundamental right. It added that in accordance with Article 21 of the Constitution of India, every citizen has the right to safe drinking water. 

Further, the civic body remarked that it has curated a new policy through which water connection will be accessible to every citizen and provide water connection on humanitarian cases in unauthorized slums dwellers, that entail private and government land as coastal regulatory zones.
