On Monday, April 11, Mumbai suburban guardian minister, Aaditya Thackeray said that May 1 onwards, it is expected that the "water for all" policy that seeks to make all structures such as unmapped slum settlements, eligible for Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) water connections will be implemented, stated reports.
Set to be implemented on Maharashtra Day, May 1, accounts have quoted him elaborating on how in accordance with the constitution of India, every citizen has the right to safe drinking water.
Taking this into consideration, the civic authority curated the policy about water supply though which water connection will be accessible to every Mumbaikar. From a humanitarian perspective this will be offered to slum dwellers on private lands, costal regulation zones and government lands, said the Maharashtra minister for environment and tourism.
According to narratives, a civic official has mentioned that the draft policy has been approved in-principle. Suggestions and objections will be sought from the locals after which the same will be implemented.
Through the policy, water connections for all tolerated structures constructed after 1964 and slum dwellers on central government lands that include railways, Airports Authority of India and Mumbai port trust will be done. This will happen provided a non-objection certificate is attained from the land owners.
It is anticipated that this will assist in curtailing illegal water connections and theft. Moreover, it is only after the submission of the requisite affidavits that the water connection will be provided.
Based on accounts, the BMC added that the policy looks to enhance water supply in those areas that presently do no receive water from them.
