The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Saturday, July 24 sealed the D-Mart in Malad for violating COVID-19 norms.

It was observed that the employees and customers were seen flouting social distancing in the grocery store during an investigation.

Moreover, the staff at the store — especially those at the billing counter — were found not wearing masks or gloves. Besides, a large crowd of customers had gathered at the store, thereby violating attendance rules, said an official.

Therefore, the DMart store in Malad has been sealed until further notice due to non-compliance with the Covid Prevention Rules.

Moreover, the Assistant Commissioner of P / North ward has reportedly directed the manager of the store to submit a report explaining the breach of rules within three days. It also seeks an explanation as to why the license should not be revoked.

According to a BMC official, strict restrictions have been imposed in Mumbai to clamp the spread of coronavirus. As per the Infectious Diseases Prevention Act, it is mandatory to strictly follow all these measures and guidelines.  In this connection, during the investigation on Saturday, it was found that the measures were being violated at the DMart store in Malad. Management of the store was held responsible for the violations. Hence, the store has been sealed and notice has been issued.
