Mumbai is known to host several slums including Dharavi which is considered as Asia's biggest slum. These slums have been made on illegal ground and over the last few years, the number of slum dwellers have only increased. Mumbai's municipal corporation, BMC, has been working hard in razing many of these illegal hutments, and the struggle continues.

As per reports, Dahisar’s Ganpat Patil slum has now been marked in the list for all wrong reasons due to the many illegal dwellers. The area has more than 12,000 hutments, out of which many have now been razed.

Last week, BMC took action by getting rid of 500 illegal hutments, and the action was repeated on Tuesday where the officials removed 300 more hutments. The demolition was carried out under the supervision of ward R/North's assistant commissioner Sandhya Nandedkar.

Further the officials also said that the mangroves near Ganpat Patil Nagar are being affected due to these hutments and locals. BMC says that razing these may be a relief and a step towards saving the mangroves.
