The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is reported to undertake a prominent restoration and beautification activity of the Worli Fort. Moreover, Worli is the constituency of the state environment minister, Aaditya Thackeray.

The project is set to cost INR 2 crore and is anticipated to be completed in a year’s time. It is believed that the Shiv Sena is looking to develop the site further.

During a meeting on September 1, 2021, the decision to beautify the fort was taken by Thackeray. Additionally, on November 26, the tender for the activity was proclaimed.

The Worli Fort was built by the British on Worli Hill around 1675 that overlooks Mahim Bay. During that time, Mumbai constituted only seven islands. The purpose of the fort was reportedly to watch out for enemy ships, as well as, pirates.

Apart from the beautification of the Worli Fort, the civic authority is also looking to restore the Mahim Fort. For which it is looking to clear 300 hutments in its vicinity by rehabilitating them at Kurla.

Earlier last week, it was reported that the BMC was looking to undertake the beautification work of the late Shiv Sena founder, Bal Keshav Thackeray's statue near Regal Cinema. From permanent lighting to beautification of the platform, what’s also included is the putting up of a red carpet that leads one to the statue.
