In order to treat wet waste and create manure out of it, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) along with housing societies will now treat the waste. For the same, the BMC has set up an organic waste converter, on the basis of which, the civic officials will treat 27.5 metric tonnes of dry waste generated in its four municipal markets.

Markets that are included

An organic waste converter has been set up at Dadar’s Kranti Sinh Nana Patil market, Dadar’s Meenatai Thackeray Flower market, Malad’s Sainath Market and Borivali market. The BMC will be spending ₹8.50 Cr and the contract of the same has been given to KK Brothers company for the next five years.

And this is how the manure is produced

After the wet waste is collected from the municipal markets, the civic officials will segregate the waste breaking it into small pieces. Once the water level goes down, the waste will be moved to the organic waste machine, where the waste will be diluted for the next 24 hours. After this step, the appointed contractor will take care of the manure.
