The BMC will soon provide free typhoid vaccine to the children between 2 to 5 age group and this move of the civic body is likely to benefit 3.5 lakh children in the city. This year the BMC has made provision of Rs 1.5 crore for this vaccination while it will cost Rs 3.5 crore to the civic body to complete the campaign. The typhoid vaccination will be started in next 3-4 months.
Chief officer of BMC’s health department, Padmaja Keskar, said that the work to prepare these vaccination doses will start soon in CPD section at Byculla. These vaccines will be made available in next 3-4 months. These vaccines will be administered through health camps. This vaccine is of course not the permanent treatment on typhoid and hence people need to be careful of their health, added Keskar.
