Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Tuesday announced free medical help and treatment for the senior citizens at municipal hospitals.

The BMC is considering to provide free medical treatment for senior citizens similar to that of the government hospitals. The Maharashtra state government initiated the free medical treatment scheme in 2004. If what BMC plans is implemented, then senior citizens living in Mumbai will be able to get free medical treatment without any hold.

Two years ago, the government had decided to provide medical treatment for the senior citizens at BMC hospitals at 50 per cent lesser rates and free at government hospitals. However, now it has been decided that senior citizens can take free medical treatments at municipal hospitals too.

The member of the previous Health Committee, Dr. Sayeeda Khan demanded free medical treatments for the senior citizens in health clinics and hospitals and recently, the administration sat down with leaders to ensure the implementation of this decision.

Senior citizens in Mumbai enjoy concession on bus ticket rates and other perks through the policies for senior citizens. Opposition leader Ravi Raja has welcomed this decision. He said that the decision taken by the administration will benefit the senior citizens.
