After several accidents involving damaged bridges in Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) carried out structural audits which marked 29 bridges to be 'dangerous' across the city. 

Of 29 bridges, eight have been dismantled while 12 have been shut for public use. Along with this, the civic body has decided to close the remaining nine bridges while the BMC plans to reconstruct them. 

Of the 344 bridges under BMC - including transport and pedestrian, the structural audit is being carried out for 304 bridges while 29 of these bridges are in extremely dangerous condition. Of these, nine high-structured bridges will be deconstructed.

Earlier, the BMC proposed to dismantle seven bridges (of the 29 bridges) before the standing committee while for other five, the dismantling process is in the final stage. Moreover, the ‘dangerous’ bridges have been shut for the vehicles. Meanwhile, the BMC is making attempts to avoid inconvenience to the people.
