The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), has revised its protocol with regards to sealing buildings where one or more residents are detected with the coronavirus. According to the amended protocol issued on July 29, the civic body will now seal a building completely only if more than three positive cases of COVID-19 are reported.

This decision comes after several citizens appealed to the BMC asking the civic body to seal an entire building located in the western suburbs in order to restrict the movement of its residents after a single case of coronavirus was detected.

The civic body had revised its guidelines on sealing buildings following a surge in cases of coronavirus in Kandivali, Borivali and Dahisar areas. According to the data shared by the BMC, the growth rate in the three areas is between 1.1 per cent and 1.7 per cent, which is higher than Mumbai’s daily average of 1.02 per cent. The virus doubling rate for these areas is also less than the city’s average of 69 days. At the moment, there are 526 sealed buildings in Kandivali, 673 in Borivali and 213 in Dahisar. These sealed buildings together have reported more than 2,600 cases. Furthermore, the officials stated that the amended guidelines will be implemented in R South (Kandivali), R Central (Borivali) and R North (Dahisar) wards from July 29.

On the other hand, Maharashtra touched the four-lakh-mark on Wednesday, July 29, after 9,211 fresh cases were reported in the last 24 hours which took the tally to 4,00,651, as per the state health department.

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra government on Wednesday, extending its current lockdown till August 31, issued guidelines for 'Mission Begin Again'. Under the new guidelines, apart from the current relaxations, malls and market complexes have been allowed to reopen from August 5 without theatres, food courts, and restaurants from 9 AM to 7 PM. The guidelines have not specified anything on reopening religious places which is to remain shut across the state.
