Roads in Mumbai have been in a bad state for many years now and despite the public protesting and raising voice regarding the matter, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has not done enough to ensure that the roads are maintained in good condition. But officials at the BMC have taken a decision to send 20 corporators to the Andaman Islands as a part of the 'study tour.'

Earlier, the team was contemplating between Chandigarh and Andaman Islands, but the decision for the latter was taken on Wednesday. The corporators are expected to leave between February 1 to 4, and and the municipal corporation will bear the estimated cost of ₹22 lakh for the tour

The aim of the study tour is to understand the road network and stormwater drainage system incorporated by the government at Andaman Islands. Talking about the same, Shiv Sena corporator, Priti Patankar, who heads the BMC’s works committee confirmed, “The proposal to visit Andaman Island for study purpose was passed on Wednesday. The dates and cost for the study tour are not finalised yet.”

Some BJP corporators have opposed the visit as they believe that there is no need to spend taxpayers’ money on this exercise in today's internet age.
