As per data revealed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday morning, July 3, the lake levels had risen to 16.78 per cent. This development came as the city has been witnessing torrential rains over the course of past one week.

Owing to the heavy rains, water stock level in all seven lakes, which supplies water to the city, have recorded a substantial recharge.

Despite the significant rise in lake water level, civic body officials confirmed that the 10 per cent water cut imposed by BMC on July 1, is here to stay. Clarifying further, official explained that the BMC needs to be prepared for inadequate rainfall in July as Mumbai rains are unpredictable.

BMC officials confirmed that the civic body does not plan on lifting the water cut any time soon, and will review its decision only after lake levels touch at least 50 per cent by July end.

As per BMC data, the water level in Tansa lake is at 40.80 per cent, while the water available at Modak Sagar lake is 43.85 per cent. Meanwhile, Middle Vaitarna has 24.42, per cent, Bhatsa is filled with 9.25 per cent, Vihar and Tulsi Lake has 38 per cent and 50.27 per cent of useful water stock respectively. 

Despite the delayed onset, Mumbai’s water stock level in all seven lakes stood at 2,42,861 million litres which implies 16.78 per cent of the total supply level. Besides, on Sunday, July 2, the water stock stood at 2,22,868, which brings to 15.4 per cent.

It is pertinent to note that the civic body had imposed a water cut after the lakes' stock dipped to 6 per cent.
