As the operations continue to remain shut, the Bombay High Court (HC) has once again asked whether there is a “possibility of a way out” to end the strike by employees of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC).

This comes as the strike has caused hardships and trouble to the common people. Therefore, the court said it hoped that employees and authorities would arrive at a workable solution before the HC-appointed committee which is scheduled to meet on November 16.

The judges directed the state to place minutes before the court on November 22, adding that minutes may also indicate the progress or otherwise.

Moreover, the bench also directed the state government to refrain from making public statements about the contentious issues arising out of the strike by MSRTC employees, suggesting to find a workable resolution to the grievances raised by the staffers.

On being informed that employees are being denied entry at depots, a division bench of Justices P Varale and SM Modak also asked the striking employees not to stop those who want to return to work. The union should co-operate with the drivers and conductors who are willing to resume services.

On the one hand where the workers are adamant not to withdraw the strike, the MSRTC counsel said that even today they are “open to suggestions” to end the hardships faced by commuters, especially in rural areas where there is no other convenient and economic means of transport.

However, it has come to light that the transport body has suffered a loss of INR 126.49 crores owing to the strike. Moreover, MSRTC has suspended over 2,000 employees for participation in the ongoing strike.
