The Bombay High Court bench headed by Justice Ranjit More and Justice Bharti Dangre were hearing a case where a 14-year-old girl had filed an FIR in 2017 accusing her 54-year-old lawyer husband of rape and violation of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO). In the same year, the lawyer was sent to jail and was released on bail after 10 months.

During this hearing, Bombay High Court (HC) said that since the girl is 18 now, it can be her decision to decide whether she wants to stay with the lawyer or not. If she agrees to reside with him, their otherwise voidable marriage would now be valid.

In order to secure her future, the bench ordered the husband to keep a Fixed Deposit (FD) of ₹7 lakhs and transfer 11 acres of land to her name. The bench further ordered him to give impetus to her for continuing her studies.

The girl said that she had filed an FIR in 2017 in anger and misunderstanding and she's now ready to be his lawfully wedded wife.

The next hearing of this case will be on February 10, 2020.
