Observing the increasing coronavirus cases in the state of Maharashtra, Justices SS Shinde and Manish Pitale of the divison bench at the Bombay High Court, will be hearing the matters via video conference. This decision will be implemented from Monday, April 5, 2021, informed the Court.

COVID-19 spread in Mumbai and other districts has witnessed a significant rise and the state, over the last 24 hours, has seen more than 49,000 new COVID-19 cases, with over 270 deaths. On the other hand, more than 37,000 patients have been treated from the infection, increasing the recovery tally to more than 24.9 lakh. 

Maharashtra has over 4 lakh active cases, with 55,656 reported dead so far. Meanwhile, Mumbai has over 62,000 active cases with 11,751 deaths reported so far.

The city of Mumbai is the worst affected with coronavirus infection, and on Saturday, April 3, 2021, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reported more than 9,000 new COVID-19 cases. Meanwhile, more than 5,000 people have recovered so far, taking the tally to over 3.6 lakh.

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, on Friday, April 2, 2021, said that the government will look at the COVID-19 crisis in the next two days, and will take a decision of imposing a lockdown. Currently, all districts across Maharashtra are facing a night curfew from 8pm to 7am, whereby public parks, cinema halls, malls, restaurants and bars will remain closed post the mentioned time. Delivery services will be allowed. Besides this, a gathering of five or more people is prohibited and actions will be taken if one violates the rules. Wearing a mask and maintaining social distancing is mandatory. Failing to wear one will result in a fine of INR 500.
