Bombay High Court on Friday rejected the petition filed by Plastic Manufacturers to put a stay order on the plastic ban initiated by the Maharashtra government in the state from the occasion of Gudi Padwa.

Earlier on Thursday, the Plastic Manufacturer Association had filed to petition in the high court against the plastic ban decision and protested outside the court. Reacting to the protest, the court slammed the petitioners for disrupting its functioning.

Maharashtra government had banned the use of plastic in the state to protect the ecology and stating the ill effects it has on the health of the people and animals. A bench consisting of Justice Abhay Oak and Riyaz Chagla rejected the petition.

While rejecting the plea filed by the plastic manufacturers, the court suggested them to seek the state government regarding their demands.

After notifying about the ban, the government gave a one-month deadline to dispose the banned products but now the deadline has been extended for three months. This means that till then, no one can be prosecuted.
