In recent developments, students of the Bombay Scottish School in Mahim have raised INR 54 lakhs for the transportation staff who used to ferry them to their schools before the outbreak of coronavirus.

According to reports, the money generated through crowdfunding is to be distributed amongst 150 drivers, cleaners, and helpers. The crowdfunding campaign that went Live on ImpactGuru on May 12 has received an overwhelming response. In the first week, the fundraiser has raised over INR 54 lakhs cumulatively contributed by over 1,300 donors.

Meanwhile, apart from crowdfunding, several students held individual activities to raise money for the cause. With many selling their old books, others reportedly sold cupcakes in order to accumulate money for the school staff amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

A year after schools across the state of Maharashtra halted their education process due to the outbreak of the coronavirus and the subsequent lockdown, preschool education, which caters to students between the ages of two and six years reportedly is the worst hit. As a result, several preschools, especially the standalone private ones, had to shut down as they could not afford to bear the costs of teachers and the infrastructure due to very low enrolments.

Therefore, it can be ascertained that the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic has been extremely detrimental to academic education. Moreover, these closures not only impact students, teachers, and families but have far-reaching economic and societal consequences.
