Even though Mumbai has been plateauing its cases of the coronavirus, the western suburbs are still witnessing a large number of these cases. Currently, Borivali has the maximum number of cases and is doubling in the shortest period of time. The doubling rate for Borivali is 57 days as of now.

According to the data released by the BMC, until August 19, the total number of patients in Borivali was 6,894. Earlier in July, in a bid to contain the spread of the disease, newer technologies such as door-to-door screening, smart helmet screening and fever checks were introduced.

Moreover, the BMC has been conducting the Rapid Antigen Testing, especially in the Borivali and the Dahisar area as a result of the surge in the cases of coronavirus.

A rapid antigen test is a rapid diagnostic test suitable for point-of-care testing that directly detects the presence or absence of an antigen. This distinguishes it from other medical tests that detect antibodies or nucleic acid.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, August 20, Mumbai reported 1,275 fresh cases of the coronavirus and 46 deaths. The city also saw 976 recoveries taking the cured tally to 1,07,033. Mumbai's tally now stands 1,32,817 cases of which 18,170 are active and 7,311 are deaths.

Moreover, the recovery rate in the city stands at 80.58 per cent while its growth rise slowed to 0.80 per cent.
