Initiated by Aaditya Thackeray the state tourism minister, I S Chahal, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner, gave the green signal for Broadwalk and cycle track from Mahim fort to Bandra fort. Tenders for this will be declared this week.

According to the report by the Indian Express, the project is set to cost Rs 167 cr. It will be made on a design, build, operate and maintenance groundwork. Set to be built on G North and H West wards, it is anticipated that the project will be constructed in 18 months, by the contractor who will also be required to maintain it for 10 years.

P Velarasu, the Additional Commissioner of (Projects), elaborated that its length will be 3.59 km, with a width of six meters, it is said to include 1.75 meters of a walkway and 2.5 meters of cycle track. There is also to be 1.75 meters of cycle track on the separate side. Velarasu believes that the said project will be an iconic location in the city, which won’t just create a recreational space, but also promote tourism in Mumbai.

The cycle track and boardwalk is to be made from coloured bitumen and composite wooden material respectively. The report states that the project is to be divided into four areas, one from Bandra fort to the suggested Bandra west subway that will be 1.26 km. Next from the planned subway to Bandra Reclamation Garden subway will be 0.74 km. Third, from Bandra Reclamation Garden subway to Mahim causeway subway which will be 1.52 km. Lastly, from Mahim causeway subway to Mahim Fort that is set to be 0.77km.

Since the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation owns the Sea Link, the contractor will have to take NOC from them. Similarly, the BMC is said to have already submitted to them and in 10 days a NOC is expected.

With a meeting set for next week, permissions from the Maharashtra Maritime Board and the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority is anticipated with a proposal being submitted.
