Many CCTV cameras at the headquarters of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) have been shut down due to technical reasons and this has raised threats to the security of the headquarters. As per reports, the CCTV cameras have not been functional due to a previous annual maintenance agreement.

Addressing the issue, BMC has placed an order of 84 new CCTV cameras in the building, and the proposal to install a new CCTV has been submitted to the Standing Committee for approval. It is said that the corporation will spend INR 77 lakh for this.

The headquarters building was constructed during the British rule in India and has historical significance. As the headquarters of the corporation has an office of mayor, commissioner, chairman of various committees, many big leaders visit in this building.

Corporators have started criticizing the security of the headquarters for not providing CCTV. The CCTVs installed in the BMC headquarters in 2016 for security reasons have been shut down, its contract has also expired. As a result, the contractor stopped maintaining the CCTV cameras in the building.

For this, a new contract will be granted to the contractor. An amount of INR 77,55,514 will be spent for this. The proposal will be submitted to the Standing Committee for approval on Wednesday.
