Talks regarding this takeover are in the advanced stage and a report regarding the same was published in Hindustan Times.

Talks between Maharashtra Government and NDDB

During the answering of queries on calling attention motion in the legislative council, Revenue Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil, who is in charge of the Dairy Development department, stated that the Maharashtra government is in the advanced stage of talks with the NDDB for the takeover of Mahanand, which was once known for its profitability and supply of milk across the city, is currently under the undertaking of the Maharashtra government.

Vikhe Patil said that the state government is committed to reviving the Mahanand dairy and will not let it go into private hands. Additionally, he mentioned that the state government is still in talks with the NDDB for the takeover of Mahanand, and they have expressed their reservation about accommodating all the employees. The discussion is still ongoing.

Price Increase

Meanwhile, on February 11, 2023, the Mahanand Dairy increased the price of milk by Rs 2 per litre and the same is now in competition with major brands in the region. The diary supplies approximately 80,000 litres of milk per day to Mumbai and an additional 30,000 litres to other centres of Maharashtra such as Pune, Latur, and Nagpur. The increase in prices has received mixed reactions from consumers and industry experts. Some have expressed concern over the affordability of milk for low-income families, while others have welcomed the move as necessary to maintain the quality and sustainability of dairy production in the state.
