Central team visits Mumbai for the second time to review COVID-19 situation

The central team visited Dharavi which is the slum-dominated area in Mumbai. Meanwhile, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials stated that 50 fresh cases for the COVID-19 have been reported, taking the toll to 783.

The Union government on Thursday sent a central team to Mumbai once again. The team was led by Lav Agrawal, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The Union health ministry officials including eight doctors visited Mumbai to assess the COVID-19 situation in the city as the number has cases have crossed 10,000-mark. 

The central team visited Dharavi which is the slum-dominated area in Mumbai. Meanwhile, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials stated that 50 fresh cases for the COVID-19 have been reported, taking the toll to 783. 

Mumbai remains one of the worst-hit districts due to the coronavirus or COVID-19 outbreak. Thane and Pune also remain affected due to the same. 

On Thursday, Maharashtra Public Health Minister Rajesh Tope informed that 1,362 fresh cases were reported in the state. The total number of case in the state has risen to 18,120. 

In its earlier visit, the inter-ministerial centre team (IMCT), deputed by the centre to inspect the efforts or preparedness of Maharashtra to tackle the coronavirus outbreak, has recommended an increase in the capacity of quarantine facility in Mumbai. 

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray called an all-party meeting in the state on Thursday and invited opposition leaders to discuss the ways to stop the spread of the COVID-19. 

Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Maharashtra Legislative Assembly and Council - Devendra Fadnavis and Praveen Darekar along with Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray, among others participated in the meeting. Moreover, MNS leader Amit Thackeray was also present in the all-party meeting at Mantaralaya.

In the meeting, Raj Thackeray suggested Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray deploy the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) to assist the police in enforcing the lockdown amid the coronavirus outbreak.
