Navi Mumbai APMC market changes timings to avoid congestion

Coronavirus patients in the district of Navi Mumbai are increasing day by day, and on the other hand, the daily congestion at the APMC market is adding to the worries. Officials state that the crowding at the market is leading to more cases. 

As per reports, the vegetable market receives over 700 vehicles daily, due to which approximately 10,000 people gather at the same time in the morning whereby COVID-19 rules are not being followed. Observing the same and with an aim to control the crowd, the  APMC administration has changed the timings of the market, which as per the revised guidelines, will start at 2 am every day. 

Moreover, the market will now start in the evening and will now be open 24 hours, instead of 8 hours, hoping to divide the crowd. 

APMC receives large quantities of vegetables from Maharashtra and other states. Vehicles carrying vegetables will be allowed to enter the market from 6 pm, and only the commencement of trade at 10 pm, the trains delivering vegetables to Mumbai and the suburbs will have access to the market.

Navi Mumbai APMC has markets for Vegetables, Fruits, Onion-Potato, and Spice, which caters to over 8,000 vehicles in a day, thereby offering employment opportunities to workers, traders, transporters, and buyers at the APMC.
