Residents of Chendani-Koliwada in Thane have intensified their opposition to the proposed Internal Metro project, staging a protest against the planned alignment and demanding that authorities reconsider the route.

The protesters claimed that the metro corridor would impact several homes and local establishments in the area, raising concerns about displacement and the future of the traditional Koli settlement. Residents said they support infrastructure development but oppose any plan that could adversely affect their community and livelihoods.

During the protest, villagers urged the state government and project authorities to hold detailed discussions with affected residents and explore alternative alignments that would minimise damage to existing neighbourhoods.

The Thane Internal Metro project, proposed to improve connectivity within the city, has faced criticism from several citizen groups and residents in recent months. Opponents have raised concerns about its social, environmental and financial implications, while demanding greater transparency in the planning process.

The latest demonstration by Chendani-Koliwada residents adds to the growing resistance against the project, with locals insisting that development should not come at the cost of displacement and disruption to long-established communities.
