According to reports, the maximum and minimum temperatures in Mumbai and its suburbs have been changing steadily for the past few days.

On Sunday, February 7, the minimum temperature in the suburbs rose by 5 degrees Celsius in a single day and dropped by 4 degrees Celsius again on Monday, February 8.

However, last week, the maximum temperature at Santacruz was recorded above 36 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. By Thursday, it was down five points. However, on Saturday, it increased by 3 degrees again. The minimum temperature, which was 19 degrees Celsius till Thursday, dropped by 3 degrees Celsius on Saturday. On Sunday, it increased by 5 degrees in a single day and reached 22 degrees Celsius. On Monday, it dropped again by 4 degrees.

The maximum temperature at both the centres was recorded above 30 degrees Celsius on Monday whereas the minimum temperature was recorded at 21.2 degrees Celsius at Colaba and 18 degrees Celsius at Santacruz.

Meanwhile, the rise in temperatures resulted in the air clearing up. According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR), Mumbai’s overall AQI was 173. An AQI between 101-200 is considered moderate and doesn’t pose any health problems to the general public. However, the AQI on Saturday was 207.

However, pollution is on the rise in both the city and the suburbs. As per SAFAR records, the air quality was reported the worst in Colaba. Combined with cold, dry air and humidity, Mumbai's air levels are declining due to construction and increasing vehicle pollution.
