Some cities in the northern part of India have reported cases of bird flu due to which the price of poultry has reduced significantly across the state. Though no case has been reported in Mumbai, the price of chicken has dropped due to the prevailing scare in the north.

Update: On Monday, the Maharashtra government has confirmed the outbreak in the state and also said that they are prepared to tackle it.

As per reports, chicken, in Mumbai, is now being sold INR 10-20 lower than the previous price, per kilogram. Reports regarding this pricing were released on Saturday, January 9, 2021, and the reason for the same is being stated as customer fear. Owing to the ongoing bird flu scare, people have been keeping themselves away from the poultry meat and products, basis which businessmen have also disposed of birds.

Owners of poultry business and meat shops call this a 'psychological effect' in the city as no case has been reported across the state, and the birds at the farms are said to be 'healthy as before.' However, authorities state that the sales have reduced by 50 per cent and the average costing of the meat by INR 20.

Data reveals that the broiler price in Mumbai has dropped to INR 75, which was earlier reported to be INR 95 per kilogram.

On Monday, January 11, Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray will be chairing a meeting to review the bird flu situation in the state.
