If reports are to be believed, the MVA government has willingly proposed to accommodate the Mumbai-Nagpur high-speed rail corridor (HSRC). It also urged the Centre to re-align the Mumbai-Pune-Hyderabad high-speed corridor through Jalna and Nanded and suggested another one through Pune and Aurangabad, mentioned reports.

Maharashtra Chief Minister, Uddhav Thackeray wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi elaborating that the MSRDC believes that the suggested Nagpur-Nashik-Mumbai high-speed rail corridor can be adjusted within the right of way of the Samruddhi Mahamarg for an estimated 80% of the length. He added that it is felt that if both the centre and state come together along the Samruddhi Mahamarg, the implementation of the Mumbai-Nashik-Nagpur high-speed rail corridor can commence promptly.

Whilst the rail corridor was planned through the Mahamarg since the beginning, the state government’s enthusiasm to continue on this trajectory stands out.

Based on reports, through the letter the CM went on to recommend that considering the Mumbai-Nagpur high-speed rail corridor will be amidst the Samruddhi Mahamarg right of way till Jalna, it can be elongated to Hyderabad. Early this month, in his two-page letter Thackeray added that if the high-speed rail corridor is accommodated in the right of way of the expressway, which is proposed between Nagpur and Mumbai, is used, the Mumbai-Hyderabad high-speed rail corridor can be made through the Mumbai-Nanded expressway through Jalna and more in the right of way of the suggested expressway from Nanded to Hyderabad.

He then went on to recommend a high-speed rail corridor from Pune and Aurangabad. Saying that Mumbai and Nagpur connect Mumbai, Nashik and Aurangabad. The Mumbai and Hyderabad plan connects Mumbai and Pune of the high-speed rail corridor road. The state government has planned a semi high-speed rail corridor from Pune and Nashik. High-speed rail connectivity from Pune and Aurangabad will forge a quadrilateral in a prominent industrial corridor. He added that the Pune, Nashik and Aurangabad connection is presently important in the auto industry in Maharashtra.

Some reports, although, mention that officials from the National High-Speed Rail Corporation on Monday informed the Thane district villagers that the practicability of the suggested Mumbai-Pune-Hyderabad program is being examined. An aggregate of 1,200 hectares will be needed in Thane, if the 649.76km road gets approval, it will include 11 stations that will reduce the travel time to Hyderabad to three hours from the present 14 hours, mentioned an official.
