The demolition of the Sion railway flyover will now be expedited. On the other hand, the opening of the pedestrian bridge by the Central Railway has made it easier for locals to travel east-west.

This old flyover will be completely demolished in the next three months and then the work on the new flyover will begin. This work is planned to be completed by January 2026.

The obstacle in the demolition of the Sion railway flyover has now been removed. The Central Railway has constructed a pedestrian bridge along the flyover. It has also been opened for the general public.

With this, the remaining demolition of the flyover will begin. The Central Railway plans to demolish the entire railway flyover in the next three months.

Earlier, due to the closure of the Sion railway flyover, locals and pedestrians faced a lot of trouble while traveling east-west. Drivers and pedestrians had to take long detours.

Since there are schools, colleges and hospitals in the area of the bridge, the locals had strongly opposed the demolition of the entire bridge until an alternative arrangement was made.

A 56-meter-long and 3-meter-wide pedestrian bridge has been constructed for locals and other pedestrians. This bridge is now complete. It has been opened for the use of locals.

Central Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Dr. Swapnil Nila said, "The pedestrian bridge on the Dharavi side of the Shiv Railway Flyover has provided an alternative for passengers to travel east-west."

One of the two lanes of the flyover was reserved for locals. Now that the pedestrian bridge is open, the demolition of the second lane is being started.

The demolition work is planned to be completed by the end of January 2026. After that, a new Shiv Railway Flyover will be constructed.

The 110-year-old Shiv railway flyover, which connects the Eastern Expressway with Lal Bahadur Shastri Road (LBS road) and Dharavi Road, was declared dangerous a few years ago.

The date for closing the bridge to traffic was changed three times. Finally, the Shiv flyover was closed to all types of vehicles after 12 midnight on July 31, 2024.
