The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has now extended the services of clean-up marshals to other areas of South mumbai.

As a pilot project, the civic body reintroduced marshals in ward A and C and soon, they were deployed to ward G, which includes Parel and Mahalaxmi and ward E, comprising Byculla. A total of 700 marshals have been appointed already, an average of 30 per ward.

According to reports, the clean-up marshals have collected a fine of INR 1.12 lakh in fines from citizens in these wards till Wednesday, April 10. This collection is considered less compared to previous years, officials stated.

Ward-wise collection of fines:

A – INR 69,713

C – INR 9,200

G/S – INR 23,200

An official said that the marshals will start working in all 24 wards within a month. The training workshop for marshals was conducted on March 26.

In addition to the digital payment system for fine collection, the BMC has given Bluetooth-connected handheld printers to marshals who will give printed receipts through a mobile app instead of handwritten receipts.

It is pertinent to note that the agencies deployed at ward level have to deposit 50 per cent of the fine amount collected with the BMC.
