Nullahs have always been a major problem in Mumbai, as every monsoon, nullahs overflow due to a lack of cleaning which leads the streets to flood.
But from this year, the BMC has announced that it will clean city's different pipelines from March and along with it, the work of cleaning the drains of Mumbai will start from April 1.
Usually, every year, the BMC starts its application process and takes approval of the standing committee in the month of April and then it makes the nullah cleaning draft. But this year, the BMC has done with the same. They have hired 26 contractors for cleaning out big nullahs, 18 contractors for cleaning small nullahs and four contractors for cleaning Mithi river.
The BMC has completed the necessary applications for nullah cleaning in February and has sent the application to the Standing Committee for an approval. Head of the Department, Vidyadhar Khankar, said after an approval, the cleaning of nullahs will start from April 1.
