CM Uddhav Thackeray announces WhatsApp helpline to fight coronavirus-related misinformation

CM Uddhav Thackeray on Twitter informed that the Maharashtra government has set up a dedicated helpline on WhatsApp. The “COVID Helpline Maharashtra” helpline can be used by people by dropping a “Hi”.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday night announced a dedicated WhatsApp helpline which will provide citizens about the coronavirus-related information. This is being done to fight the misinformation being spread regarding the coronavirus or COVID-19. 

On Wednesday, CM Uddhav Thackeray on Twitter informed that the Maharashtra government has set up a dedicated helpline on WhatsApp. The “COVID Helpline Maharashtra” helpline can be used by people by dropping a “Hi” after which the citizens can get facts and guidance about the coronavirus or COVID-19.

“The Government of Maharashtra has set up a dedicated WhatsApp helpline ‘COVID Helpline Maharashtra’ that people can message on and stay updated about COVID-19 facts and latest guidance (sic),” CM Uddhav Thackeray tweeted. 

The helpline number is +912026127394. The service can be activated after dropping a “Hi” at this helpline number on WhatsApp. 


On the occasion of ‘Gudipadwa’, Maharashtra Chief Minister on Wednesday addressed the citizens through social media and reiterated that people should stay at home to stop the spread of the coronavirus while stating that this is war. 

“It is a war. I hope that everyone has understood the dangers of coronavirus. When we are not aware of the enemy then the enemy will attack us. So, we have to be aware as we cannot see the enemy here,” Uddhav Thackeray said. 

The Chief Minister also urged the people to not panic and assured that the essential services and items will continue to be available. Thackeray further stated that the Maharashtra government has sufficient stock of essential services and items including vegetables, rice and other items of daily use. 

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a nationwide lockdown for 21 days from March 25 in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
