Coronavirus cases in the city of Mumbai have increased after Diwali and this has raised concerns among the general public and the governance. CM Uddhav Thackeray has asked the state government to ensure public safety, and keeping this in mind, officials have been directed to take strict action against those who flout norms of not wearing a mask or maintaining social distance.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been released data on a regular basis, which reveals that the cases have risen after every festival, be it Diwali, Navratri or Ganeshotsav. People have stepped out of their homes and crowded the markets, despite the government asking citizens to celebrate the same in a simple manner.
The report reveals that the average percentage of active cases in Mumbai stands at 5.4, and wards A (Colaba), MW (Chembur West), PS (Goregaon), RS (Kandivali), KW (Andheri West) has the most active cases. Colaba has 8.5 per cent of active cases, i.e. 504 out of 5934 cases. Below mentioned is the ward wise information regarding the same.

A total of 14 wards in Mumbai have more than 10,000 COVID-19 cases, whereby active cases range from 4.4 per cent to 6.6 per cent. Wards RC (Borivali), KW (Andheri West), PN (Malad), RS (Kandivali), KE (Andheri East) have the highest cumulative cases in Mumbai. As of November 27, 2020, Mumbai has more than 2.79-lakh active cases, whereby 2.54 lakh have been discharged after treatment. A total of 10,739 deaths have been recorded. Currently, 11697 cases are active in the city, out of which 741 are critical, 8072 are asymptomatic and 2884 are symptomatic.
BMC has tested more than 18.5 lakh people in Mumbai and 15 per cent of them have tested positive for coronavirus. Observing a rise in the cases, the BMC has sealed 407 areas and 4790 buildings as containment zones or red zones in Mumbai. At present, over 4.3 lakh patients in Mumbai are under home quarantine.
