Mumbai - BMC commissioner Ajoy Mehta has convened an urgent meeting of the standing committee on Thursday. It is important to note here that standing committee chairman Yashodhar Phanse has not convened this meeting. It indicates all is not well between the civic administration and the ruling party.

On Tuesday, the standing committee had passed around a hundred proposals of various developmental works in its meeting. Many important proposals such as civic hospitals, nursing homes, oxygen and oxide purchase for hospitals, gardens, grounds and traffic islands have been put up in the meeting. The standing committee meets once in a week.

As all the proposals were okayed in Tuesday’s meeting, there is no work pending on the committee's agenda. This has not deterred the BMC chief from convening the standing committee meeting again. Mehta asked the committee chairperson to convey the meeting under section 49 of the BMC Act. Presently, two proposals have been put on the agenda and the civic chief has sent some proposals to the department heads concerned.
