On Saturday, April 10, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray held a meeting in order to review the COVID-19 situation in the state, however, no final decision has been taken yet with regards to a full-fledged lockdown in Mumbai.

Moreover, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Congress leaders Nana Patole, Balasaheb Thorat and Ashok Chavan, Opposition Leader Devendra Fadnavis, LOP in Legislative Assembly Pravin Darekar, state BJP chief Chandrakant Patil, and Dr. Tatyarao Lahane were were present in the meeting.

According to reports, CM Thackeray is of the opinion that a stringent lockdown must be in place in order to fight the spike in cases of the coronavirus, however, a decision regarding the same is to be taken in two days after a meeting with the COVID-19 task force in the state.

The Leader of the Opposition and former CM, Devendra Fadnavis had earlier expressed the fear of an outburst from the people if the state imposes a complete lockdown. Considering the same, he asked the government to consider this strongly, as it would affect the people and would become a tough decision to manage.

In response, CM Thackeray had stated that even now with the new guidelines, the markets are getting crowded as rules are not being followed at many locations and occasions like marriage ceremonies. On the other hand, employees are stepping out of the houses despite appeals being made for work from home. However, if this situation continues, there will no option but to break the chain with a strict lockdown and not just a weekend lockdown.
