On Thursday, January 6, Mumbai's Dharavi reported 107 new COVID-19 cases, the highest ever one-day count since the commencement of the pandemic, reports stated. Similarly, the island city reported 20,181 new cases on Thursday. Earlier, on April 8 2021, the Dharavi area had reported the highest number of coronavirus cases at 99. 

Based on accounts, officials have mentioned that they are aggressively testing to reduce the spread of the infection and thus, the numbers are increasing. Back on April 1 2020, the first case of COVID-19 was reported in Dharavi. Since then there were several days wherein nearly 90 cases were reported from the said area. 

It was for the first time on December 25, 2020, that Dharavi reported zero coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic. For a significant amount of time since the number of cases reported here were below 20. 

Moreover, according to reports, the first vaccination centre in a slum cluster was set up in Dharavi. Herein the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) aim was to inoculate the senior population as well as those with comorbidities. They did so by setting up the centre at the urban healthcare centre, known as Chota Sion Hospital, remarked accounts.
