Mumbai Reports Over 20,000 New COVID-19 Cases

The civic body remarked that Dharavi reported 107 new COVID-19 cases which is stated to be the highest ever spike in a day.

On Thursday, January 6, Mumbai reported 20,181 new COVID-19 cases along with four fatalities highlighted the data released by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). 

Out of the total positive patients, 85 per cent are asymptomatic. Moreover, of the 1,170 patients hospitalized today, 106 are on oxygen. With this, from the 35,594 total beds, 5,998 are occupied which is 16.8 per cent. On the other hand, 2,837 positive patients recovered and were subsequently discharged. 

The total number of active coronavirus patients in the island city is 79,260. Owing to these numbers, the recovery rate of the city has fallen to 88 per cent. In accordance with the containment measures taken on Wednesday, January 5, there are 32 active containment zones and 502 sealed buildings in Mumbai. 

The positivity rate is at 29.90 per cent on Thursday. According to the BMC, 20181 samples tested positive out of the 67,000 samples tested. Moreover, based on accounts by the ANI the civic body remarked that Dharavi reported 107 new COVID-19 cases which is stated to be the highest ever spike in a day. Its case tally is now at 7,626.

Previously on Wednesday, Mumbai reported over 15,000 coronavirus cases.
