As per recent updates, state government officials had decided to hand-stamp people who have been asked to stay in isolation, keeping the intensity of coronavirus in mind. This self-quarantine procedure is especially needed for travellers who have now landed in India after their visit to a foreign land.
Among the recently arrived list of passengers were four people, who came from Germany, were asked to surrender at Palghar in Maharashtra. They were deboarded from the train after the ticket examiner noted the home quarantine stamps on their hands. They were on their way to Surat, on the Bandra Terminus-Delhi Garibrath Express train, which does not have a stop at Palghar station. It is said that the decision was quickly taken after the co-passengers on the train raised an alarm.
Upon landing, they were screened at the Mumbai international airport and detected negative, but they were advised home quarantine for 14 days as a precautionary measure. Once deboarded, the four passengers were taken to a government hospital where they were checked by local authorities and advised to travel by road.
Currently, the count of positive cases in Maharashtra has increased to 42 and one patient passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2020. Keeping the seriousness in mind, the Uddhav Thackeray-led government decided to shut down many places in the city. Further, the government is trying to arrange more testing centres at multiple hospitals, which help screen more samples at a faster pace.
