With the increase in cases of coronavirus across the country, on Tuesday, October 13, an awareness campaign was launched by the NDRF and NSS unit of Niranjana Majithia College, Kandivali in a bid to contain the spread of the contagious disease.

This awareness campaign took place at Mathuradas Road, Atul Tower, Shivaji Road, M.G. road which started at 11.30 am. College students and teachers along with NDRF officials also took part in the campaign.

On the other hand, earlier on Tuesday, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope stated that the state received 12.50 lakh sub-standard RT-PCR testing kits for the coronavirus from GCC Biotech Ltd and maintained that the private firm will face legal action. Speaking to reporters in his hometown Jalna, Tope added that the Pune-based National Institute of Virology (NIV), a unit of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), had found that the quality of these kits was "not up to the mark".

Meanwhile, Maharashtra on Tuesday reported 8,522 fresh cases of the coronavirus, taking the COVID-19 tally in the state to 15,43,837. Maharashtra also reported 187 new deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 40,701. The state currently hosts 2,05,415 active cases. With 15,356 discharges in the day, the total number of recoveries stand at 12,97,252.
