Hardware and electronic store owners in Mumbai are getting a major reprieve as the authorities have allowed the reopening of standalone outlets in the city.

The BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) Commissioner Praveen Pardeshi has issued a directive to all 24 municipal commissioners asking them to allow the reopening of electronics and hardware stores across their respective wards. However, the directive also says that not more than one shop can be open on each road. This has bee done to ensure that there is no crowding at any place.

These stores will now join pharmacies and stores selling essential goods that already remain open with social distancing measures in place. The directive reads - “It has been ordered that many essential and lifesaving medical equipment’s, IT systems related to health systems and machine/vehicles are in the state of disrepair due to closing down of electronic and hardware shops and there is urgent need to keep such shops open to some extent.”
