Amidst the opening of Powai's Dimple Wine Shop, the owner realized that his store had been robbed with cash and liquor worth Rs 8 lakh said to be missing. The issue reportedly surfaced on the evening of Monday, as the authorities allowed the reopening of liquor stores across the city.

It is said that the thieves had broken through the main entrance by bending the metal shutters. The report adds that the shutters were fixed back by the burglars upon leaving the location.

The owner Pramod Dodeja (43) said that he opened the store on Monday after receiving prior permission from the authorities. In terms of what’s missing, Dodeja claims that liquor valued at Rs 7.5 lakh and around Rs 1.1 lakh in cash was missing from the safe.

Unfortunately, there’s no CCTV footage of the robbery as the store was shut down since March 20 when the lockdown was implemented in a minimal capacity. The owner also cut the power to the store at the time, which means the heist went undetected. Taking this into account, Powai Police has asked for CCTV footage from the nearby Tunga Village.

Separately, the police filed charges on the owner of the liquor store for not following social distancing measures while reopening. He was booked under IPC Section 144 for violating prohibitory orders. The police said that the token system proposed by the authorities was also not being implemented at the location.
