The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in Mumbai has seen in an increase with every passing day and the locality of Mira-Bhayandar was under lockdown, owing to this rise. However, authorities decided to ease the same in the area and starting Saturday, May 9, 2020, hardware, opticians and electronic shops in this part of the city have been given the necessary permission to remain open.

Mira-Bhayandar was under a strict shut down from April 20, 2020, and officials had decided to only allow essential services to function. But as per this new update, these following services will be allowed at these timings:

  • Hardware, opticians and electronic shops, garages can remain open from 9 am to 3 pm
  • Medical shops will be open from 9 am to 9 pm
  • Milk and some dairy products would be available at selected stores from 7 am to 11 am
  • All grocery shops and departmental stores will remain open from 9 am to 3 pm
  • Only home delivery of meat, fruits and vegetables will be allowed between 9 am and 11 pm. Shops selling these items will remain closed until May 12.

Mira-Bhayandar commissioner Chandrakant Dange told Mirror Online that the restrictions were eased keeping citizens' convenience in mind, and the repair work of electrical appliances was permitted due to their necessity in the summer season.

As of May 8, 2020, 192 cases were reported from this locality and two deaths were reported. The total number of cases in Mumbai have crossed the 12,000-mark with 12,142 cases, and the government is taking necessary action to control the spread.
